New Construction of Churches

In 2002, Sandia Pueblo set a new standard by specifying that its new church be constructed to look like it was built with adobe,  and be built with materials that would last at least 500 years.    The only building system that could address these specifications was Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs).   They realized that this building was going to remain in their family for hundreds of years.   This multi-generational outlook on construction really makes sense, especially for a buildings paid for by groups.     Schools, churches and government buildings are all being paid for by groups of people, rather than individuals.   The benefit of these structures should be realized by future generations, not just the present one.

Insulated concrete forms use about half the energy of conventional construction.  Also built in 2002, the 40,000 square foot Desert Springs Church on Osuna in Albuquerque, enjoys the benefits of energy efficient construction, acoustics and longevity.    Concrete is a natural choice for sustainable construction,  however, insulated concrete is much better because it is protected outside temperature fluctuations.

Although these churches were high budget projects, it is possible to build churches as a reasonable cost.    By involving Extreme Green in the design process, it is possible to radically reduce the cost of construction.   Extreme Green is also developing some ultra energy efficient standard designs that can be built at a great cost.

For example, the Los Lunas Church of God was given a 4 acre plot as a donation in the exclusive Hunning Ranch subdivision.  With this land equity and support from other churches  it will make it possible for them to build this 6000 square foot building is being built for approximately $60/sf which will allow them to grow their modest congregation to 200+ members.    As the congregation grows, the plan is to convert the building to the youth auditorium and build a new, much larger building for the main auditorium, eventually filling utilizing the entire campus.    Company CEO, Jim Montoya is also the Pastor of Los Lunas Church of God.   Pastor Jim believes that God has called him to become Pastor of this church at this time like God called Nehemiah to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.

Extreme Green is very passionate about helping churches achieve their vision.    We encourage you to visit with us or to attend one of our Church Building Seminars
